First Breath
Every morning
I breathe in the air of a new day
Full of possibilities
Full of opportunities
Full of expectations
and worries
and fears
and dreams.
“Deep breath,”
He says,
and I try to breathe–
Pulling in the air as I rise to the surface of the day–
Knowing that someone
loves me and wants my best.
Every day,
as if nothing yet had been done,
sighing and believing,
I breathe.
